4 Dead, 16 Wounded In Weekend Shootings

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Four men were killed, and at least 16 others were wounded, in gun violence in Chicago over the weekend.
The weekend's first fatal shooting happened about 1:40 a.m. Saturday in the Pilsen neighborhood. Mark Carney, 26, was shot multiple times in the back during a drive-by shooting in the 1800 block of South Sangamon Street, authorities said.
A witness told police they saw Carney in the street when they heard five to six shots coming from a gold-colored vehicle carrying three men.
Carney, of the 1800 block of South Peoria Street, was taken in critical condition to Stroger Hospital of Cook County where he was pronounced dead at 6:01 a.m. Saturday, authorities said.
The next fatal shooting took place about 2:02 a.m. in the 1100 block of South Whipple Street in the North Lawndale neighborhood. James Bell, 26, was walking down the street when he got into an argument with some people who were on a nearby porch, authorities said.
Bell allegedly started shooting at the people on the porch, who then returned gunfire, striking him in the groin and thigh, authorities said. Bell, of the 300 block of West Polk Street, ran from the scene and collapsed in the 1100 block of South Sacramento Boulevard, authorities said. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 8:31 a.m.
A shooting in the Auburn-Gresham neighborhood Saturday night about 8:35 p.m. killed a 27-year-old man who shared the name of a U.S. President. The shooting in the 1200 block of West 79th Street also left another man, 41, wounded in the leg.
Andrew Jackson, of the 7600 block of South Saginaw Avenue, was dead at the scene while the other man was taken in good condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, authorities said.
Police took one person in custody after a witness identified him as the shooter. A security camera at a nearby store also caught the shooting on tape, police said.
In a fourth incident around 9:20 p.m. Sunday, a man was shot in the head in the South Shore neighborhood and later died. The victim, Daniel Green, 21, was shot in the 7800 block of South Constance Avenue, police said.
Green, of the 7100 block of South Euclid Avenue -- was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 12:28 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
Gun violence wounded at least 16 other people across the city since Friday night. Three of those injured remain in serious or critical condition early Sunday, including a 14-year-old boy who is the youngest victim of weekend gunfire.
He was one of two people shot about 9:20 p.m. in the 200 block of East Garfield Boulevard, in the South Side Washington Park neighborhood. The boy and a 51-year-old man were outside when a male suspect shot them both, police said.
The teen was shot in the abdomen and is in serious condition at the University of Chicago Comer Children's Hospital early Sunday, police News Affairs Officer Greer said. The man suffered a gunshot wound to his arm and was taken in stable condition to Stroger Hospital.
A young teenage boy was also the victim in another incident in the North Lawndale. The boy was standing on the sidewalk in the 3600 block of West 16th Street when someone ran up and shot him several times about 9:25 p.m., police said.
The boy was reported in stable condition to Mount Sinai Hospital, police side.
Area detectives are investigating all of the shootings.
