Mother, 3 Children Hit Crossing The Street
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A mother and her three children, including a three-month-old baby, were taken to the hospital after being struck by a vehicle.
It happened at Paulina and Jackson on the Near West Side around 4:30 p.m., CBS 2's Pamela Jones reports.
Investigators say man driving a 2000 Chevy Blazer ran a red light at Paulina. It slammed into a second car, sending that vehicle turning and sliding into all four victims. That driver was not at fault, police said.
A witness said the mother and her children were crossing the street at the time of the accident.
A detective at the scene said the mother and children were in stable condition, but extra attention would be paid to the baby.
Police say the suspect who caused the accident drove about a mile and left the Blazer in an alley at Oakley and Adams.
The baby's mother was expected to stay at Stroger Hospital overnight. The other children, aged 3 and 7, were expected to be released from the hospital.
