3 Charged In Beating Death Over Use Of Phone

CHICAGO (CBS) – Three teenagers stand charged with beating a man to death at a bus stop for his cell phone.
As WBBM Newsradio's Bernie Tafoya reports, authorities say the teens attacked Darius Link, as he stood at a bus stop at 1050 E. 79th St., near Ellis Avenue, in the Grand Crossing neighborhood.

Link and his friend left an acquaintance's house around 3 a.m. and were waiting at a bus stop in the 1000 block of East 79th when a man approached and asked to use the friend's cell phone, police said. When the friend declined, multiple offenders reportedly began beating Link.
Donnte Kindle, 17, of the 2800 block of East 78th Street, and Jabril Garner, 18, of the 1300 block of East 73rd Street, are each being held on $1 million bond on charges of first-degree murder.
A third man, Antoine Ward, 18, of the 14200 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue in Dolton, is charged with one count of first-degree murder, one count of robbery and one count of felony murder. He is set to appear in bond court later Friday.
"It's just senseless. It's not even news anymore," Grand Crossing neighborhood resident Jocelyn King said in the Chicago Sun-Times after the incident. "It's scary out here at night."
Link was pronounced dead less than a half hour after the attack at the University of Chicago Medical Center, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
He died of a hemorrhage caused by the attack, and his death was ruled a homicide.
