3 Arrested For Murder Of Woman Allegedly Arranged By Son

CHICAGO (STMW) -- Three people charged with the September 2012 murder of a 45-year-old Uptown hair stylist — including the woman's son — were ordered held without bond Tuesday.

Cook County Judge Adam Bourgeois Jr., called the crime a "heinous act" as he denied bail for Qawmane Wilson, 24, Eugene Spencer, 22 and Loriana Johnson, 23.

Yolanda Holmes was found shot and stabbed to death Sept. 2, 2012 in her apartment in the 1000 block of West Montrose.

At the George Leighton criminal courthouse Tuesday, Cook County assistant state's attorney Maura White told Bourgeois that Wilson, who was arrested Sunday and is charged with murder and home invasion, arranged to have his mother killed. Wilson was the "sole beneficiary" of his mother's assets, including two life insurance policies, White said. One week after Holmes' death, Wilson liquidated $90,000 from of his mother's bank accounts, White said.

Spencer, 22, of the 6100 block of South Rockwell, was arrested Monday, police said, and is accused of carrying out Holmes' murder. Spencer is charged with first-degree murder, home invasion and aggravated discharge of a firearm.

Police said Johnson, 23, of the 300 block of East 131st Place, was Spencer's driver to and from the crime scene. She also was arrested Monday and has been charged with murder and home invasion.

Ayonna Anderson, one of Holmes' friends, told the Chicago Sun-Times Tuesday that she was stunned to learn that Wilson might be involved in his mother's death.

"She gave him everything he wanted," said Anderson, a hair stylist who worked in Holmes' salon. "He wasn't hurting for nothing. Why would you have your mother killed?"

Anderson said Holmes was a single mother and that Wilson, as a boy, would often spend time at the salon.

"He was a salon baby," Anderson said. "Everybody know him. We would never think he was capable of doing that. She was a great mom."

Wilson, Spencer and Johnson are next scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 13.
