2nd Cop Accused Of Rape Bonds Out
CHICAGO (CBS) -- The second Chicago police officer accused of sexually assaulting a woman after offering her a ride home bonded out of jail Friday evening.
Paul Clavijo left the Cook County Jail at 26th and California after posting $500,000 bond. Declining comment, he walked out of the gate escorted by several sheriff's officers and a man who identified himself as Clavijo's brother.
The 38-year-old is accused of sexually assaulting two women on two separate occasions – one on March 10, the other on March 30. Clavijo's brother says he's innocent.
"He's just a good man who had a regrettable encounter with an incredulous individual," Clavijo's sibling said. "He's a good man."
It was the March 30th incident that launched a criminal investigation into Clavijo and his partner, Juan Vasquez. The two were charged Thursday.
Both officers are accused of sexually assaulting a 22-year-old woman after offering her a ride home. Attorneys for both the officers say the sex was consensual, but Cook County State's Attorney Anita Alvarez says the woman was too intoxicated to give her knowing consent.
Both veteran officers have been stripped of their police powers. Vasquez, also 38, bonded out Thursday.
