$2M Bond For Westmont Man Accused Of Stabbing Father To Death
WHEATON, Ill. (STMW) -- Bond was set at $2 million Monday for a 32-year-old west suburban man charged with stabbing to death his 63-year-old father during a fight at a Westmont hotel where the younger man lived.
William V. Clifford, 32, is being held at the DuPage County Jail on first-degree murder charges after allegedly stabbing his father to death Saturday afternoon at Westmont's Homestead Studio Suites, 855 Pasquinelli Dr.
Police responding to reports of a fight at 1:07 p.m. Saturday found William Clifford, 63, lying in the hallway of the third floor of the complex, a release from the DuPage County State's Attorney's office said. Clifford was bleeding from his upper body and was taken to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, where he was pronounced dead.
William Clifford had gone to the extended-stay hotel to visit his son, William V. Clifford, 32, the state's attorney's release said. While the elder Clifford was there, state's attorneys allege, a fight broke out between father and son, in which the younger Clifford repeatedly stabbed his father in the upper body.
The younger Clifford allegedly tried to flee the scene after the fight but was immediately apprehended by Westmont police, without incident.
One count of first-degree murder was filed Sunday against William V. Clifford, the state's attorney's office said. The count carries a minimum sentence of 20 - 60 years in prison.
At a bond hearing at the DuPage County Courthouse Monday morning, bond was set at $2 million, according to the DuPage County Sheriffs website.
