25-Year-Old Killed While Playing With Gun In West Town
CHICAGO (STMW) -- A 25-year-old man died after he accidentally shot himself in the face in his West Town home late Friday.
The man, identified as Sergiy Zavgorodniy, of the 2300 block of West Rice Street, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office, was playing with a gun at his home when he accidentally shot himself in the face, police News Affairs Officer Daniel Sullivan said.
Zavgorodniy was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, where he was pronounced dead at 11:47 p.m., according to the medical examiner's office.
While both police and the medical examiner's office said that the man shot himself while apparently playing with a handgun, an autopsy Saturday found that he died of a gunshot to the head and his death was ruled a suicide, according to the medical examiner's office.
