Driver In Fatal NW Suburban Crash Charged With DUI
CARY, Ill. (STMW) -- The 19-year-old driver of a car that crashed into a tree in northwest suburban Cary early Saturday has been charged with driving under of the influence of alcohol.
The crash happened about 1 a.m. on Elden Drive just south of Margaret Terrace in Cary, when a Ford Taurus struck a tree, a release from police said.
A 20-year-old male passenger in the vehicle was pronounced dead on the scene, police said.
He has been identified as Pedro Atala-Silva by the McHenry County Corner's office.
The 19-year-old driver of the car suffered "severe injuries" and was flown to Condell Hospital by a Flight for Life helicopter, police said.
Cary Police Officer John Szatkowski said the driver has been charged with driving under the influence, and additional charges are pending.
The crash remains under investigation.
