20 Glenbard South Students Suspended From Sports For Underage Drinking
GLEN ELLYN, Ill. (CBS) -- Twenty students at Glenbard South High School in west suburban Glen Ellyn won't be participating in part of the athletic seasons, after photos surfaced on Facebook showing them at an underage drinking party.
As WBBM Newsradio's Dave Berner reports, the party took place at a student's house last Saturday night. School administrators say they learned about it Monday, the Daily Herald reports.
Glenbard South says the students broke the athletic code, and did not conduct themselves as good citizens or examples of the school, the newspaper reported.
The 20 student athletes will miss about 20 percent of the season, and will also have to complete substance abuse counseling, according to the Daily Herald.
A number of other students also attended the party, but they did not face school discipline. The school says for those students, it happened in a private home off school grounds, and there was no school code to violate, the newspaper reported.
School administrators did contact the families of the non-athletic team students who appeared in the photos, school district Supt. Dave Larson tells the Daily Herald.
