2 Youths Seriously Injured In Harvey Hit-And-Run
(CBS) – Two youths were seriously injured – one remains in a coma – in a hit-and-run incident in Harvey last week.
CBS 2's Pamela Jones reports, for 18-year-old Kendall Copeland, each step is slow and painful. His shattered foot, an ear stitched back together are wounds he's left with after a horrific hit-and-run crash near 147th and Loomis in Harvey Friday night.
Copeland says it happened in a flash, near a convenience store between 11 p.m. and 11:30 p.m.
He and his cousin, 18-year-old Jordan Johnson, were walking back to Copeland's apartment a couple of blocks away.
The teens were trying to walk across 147th street when a witness says a driver headed the wrong way slammed into them.
Latonia Stewart says her son Johnson's injuries are so bad doctors have kept him in a medically induced coma to heal.
"It's not fair. It's inhumane for someone to do that to another person," she says.
Stewart hopes a network of video cameras at the corner store may have captured the driver. But she knows police need more info from witnesses, too.
"Somebody saw something. Somebody may even know who did this," she says.
Johnson was set to graduate from high school this year, but now that's all on hold.
Harvey police are investigating this case as a hit-and-run. So far, no word on any suspects yet.
