2 To 4 Inches Of Snow Coming Tuesday

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Chicago has been lucky with a lack of significant snow since New Year's, but come Tuesday, that will all change.
CBS 2 Meteorologist Megan Glaros says 2 to 4 inches of snow are expected beginning after midnight Monday night.
Only about an inch of new snow is expected to fall overnight, but during the day Tuesday, the snow is expected to pick up and dump 2 to 4 inches.
The snow is expected to continue into Tuesday night and even into Wednesday morning. Winds will also pick up, blowing from the north-northwest between 10 and 15 mph and gusting as high as 20 mph.
The southern parts of the Chicago area are expected to be hit hardest by the snow. Some areas south of Kankakee could see 5 inches of accumulation or more, and central Illinois could be hit by up to 8 inches.
A winter weather advisory is in effect until 6 p.m. Tuesday, but not for the Chicago area. The northernmost counties affected are Iroquois and Ford counties, between Kankakee and Champaign. Downstate Illinois south all the way to Carbondale is also affected by the advisory.
A lake effect snow watch is also in effect, from 6 p.m. Tuesday through 4 p.m. Wednesday for Porter and LaPorte counties, and parts of north central Indiana and southwest Michigan. Accumulations of up to 8 inches are possible in some affected areas, according to the National Weather Service.
