2 Teens Wounded In South Side Shootings

CHICAGO (CBS) - Police are investigating two separate shootings on the city's South Side over the weekend, in which both of the victims were teenagers.

Around 6:25 p.m. Sunday, a 19-year-old man was walking in the 500 block of East 51st Street near Washington Park, when he heard gunfire and realized he had been shot in the back, according to police News Affairs.

He was taken to Stroger Hospital of Cook County in an unidentified condition, police said. Wire reports indicate that he was apparently taken to the West Side hospital several miles from the shooting scene, although Provident Hospital of Cook County is on the very same block where the shooting happened.

Just a few minutes later, a 16-year-old boy was shot in the 4500 block of South Hermitage Avenue in the Back of the Yards neighborhood.

The boy told police a red van approached him, and someone in the front seat got out and opened fire. The teen was wounded in the abdomen, police said.

The boy was listed in stable condition at Holy Cross Hospital Sunday night, police News Officer Amina Greer said.

No one was in custody in either shooting as of Monday morning.
