2 Teens Charged After Police Shooting
ChiCAGO (CBS) -- Two 15-year-old boys now face charges after a police shooting on the city's West Side.
One teen was charged with four counts of aggravated battery to the police and cited with negligent driving, failure to carry a driver's license or permit, driving without headlights and driving without taillights, while the other teen was charged with aggravated assault to police and resisting police.
As of early Thursday, both had been released from the hospital and they have been turned over to the Juvenile Detention Center, 1100 S. Hamilton Ave., for further processing.
The shooting happened about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 4300 block of West Roosevelt Road, according to a police News Affairs statement.
Mobile Strike Force officers were on a targeted mission in the area, said to be well-known for gang conflict and drug activity, when they saw a vehicle matching the description of a vehicle believed to be transporting narcotics and weapons, the statement said.
After officers curbed the vehicle, one of two men inside allegedly put it in reverse and struck a squad car, then accelerated forward and struck an officer, according to the statement.
One suspect then allegedly pointed a handgun at the officers, one of whom fired and struck both men, the statement said.
Fire Media Affairs spokesman Quention Curtis said two people were taken from that location in critical condition to Mount Sinai Hospital.
Two officers were taken to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries and were expected to be treated and released, the statement said. Police recovered a weapon at the scene.
