2 Police Officers Injured In South Shore Crash
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Two Chicago Police officers were taken to the hospital Wednesday morning, after a car slammed into their police van while they tried to make a traffic stop in the South Shore neighborhood.
The crash happened at 4:39 a.m. in the 2400 block of East 75th Street, police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli said.
Two officers were in a marked police van with their emergency lights activated, and were trying to pull over a westbound vehicle, Mirabelli said.
That vehicle ran a red light and fled the scene, but a third vehicle headed northbound on Yates Boulevard then collided with the police van, Mirabelli said. The driver, a 60-year-old-man, stayed at the scene and was taken in Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.
He was reported in stable condition, Mirabelli said.
Both officers were taken to South Shore Hospital in stable condition and did not suffer any serious injuries, Mirabelli said.
Police could not immediately say why officers were attempting to pull over the westbound vehicle that fled.
