2 Officers Injured When SUV Hits Squad Car

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Two Chicago Police officers were in the hospital early Friday, after their squad car crashed in the middle of a chase through the Humboldt Park neighborhood.
As CBS 2's Susanna Song reports, the crash happened around 12:25 a.m. at Central Park and North avenues.
Police say they were chasing what the sport-utility vehicle, which was believed to be stolen. The pursuit ended when the squad car and the SUV crashed in the intersection.
Four people were taken into custody, including one person who tried to get away.
Two officers suffered minor injuries and were taken to area hospitals.
Earlier reports indicated that the crash stemmed from a homicide about a block away, but police later said the incidents were unrelated.
The homicide fhappened about 11:40 p.m. Thursday. A man identified as Efrain Cruz, 25, was shot and killed as he stood in a gangway at LeMoyne Street and Spaulding Avenue about four blocks from the crash scene.
Police say Cruz was shot in the back and neck. He was taken to Stroger Hospital of Cook County, where he was pronounced dead.
Police say the man had been shot multiple times.
