2 Motorists Critically Injured In Car-Train Collision
CHICAGO (STMW) -- Two people were critically injured Thursday night when a car went around down train gates and was struck by an Amtrak train on the South Side.
A car was struck by an Amtrak train when it went around down train gates at 6:55 p.m. at the intersection of West 97th Street and South Eggleston Avenue, Fire Media Affairs spokesman Joe Roccasalva said.
One woman and one man, whose ages were not immediately known, were taken in critical condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, Roccasalva said. There were no other injuries.
Amtrak Train No. 50 had 245 passengers and departed Union Station at 5:58 p.m. on its way to New York, Amtrak spokeswoman Christina Leeds said. The train was still on the scene as of about 8 p.m.
