2 Men Seriously Injured In Shootings

CHICAGO (STMW) - The assailant who fired from inside a residence, striking a teen three times in the back is in custody after one of two separate shootings Saturday evening that left two men hospitalized in serious condition on the South Side.

At 5:44 p.m. someone shot an 18-year-old man in the back in the 6400 block of South Paulina Street, according to police News Affairs Officer Daniel O'Brien.

Police were already on the scene responding to other disturbances, including a shots fired call, a man with a gun call and a call for people fighting, when they actually saw the teen getting shot, Englewood District police Lt. Brent Fidler said.

The shots were fired from inside a residence at the Paulina address.

"He (victim) was standing on a sidewalk when shots were fired from an opened front door,'' said Fidler. The victim was shot three times in the back.

The officers called for help from the scene and the teen was transported to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in serious condition, Fidler said.

The offender ran out the back door of the house and witnesses gave a description of the gunman and he was apprehended about a block away.

Shell casings were found on the scene and a semi automatic handgun believed to have been used in the attack was recovered, the lieutenant said. No charges have been filed as of 9 p.m.

In a separate attack, a 23-year-old was shot in the head by an assailant at 7:30 p.m. at 55th Street and King Drive, according to O'Brien.

That man was taken to Saint Bernard Hospital and Health Care Center where he was also in serous condition.

No one is in custody for the King Drive shooting, the officer said.

Wentworth Area detectives are investigating.
