2 Men Dead In Palatine Murder-Suicide

PALATINE, Ill. (CBS) -- A trip to collect the family dog turned deadly when a man shot his daughter's boyfriend to death, then turned the gun on himself Sunday night in northwest suburban Palatine.
Palatine police said 49-year-old Edward Kuemper shot and killed his daughter's boyfriend, 21-year-old Bradley Morrison, during an argument about 8:30 p.m. in the 1500 block of East Reynolds Drive.

Police arrived to find Morrison dead on the front yard and Kuemper on the front porch.
Investigators learned Kuemper and his wife were having marital problems for some time and she no longer lived at the home, a release from police said.
The woman, her daughter and Morrison went to the home to get the family dog, but Kuemper refused to give up the pet and the incident escalated, the release said.
According to the woman and her daughter, Kuemper and Morrison, who did not get along, became involved in a verbal argument which turned deadly when Kuemper took a handgun and shot Morrison twice as he tried to leave the home, the release said.
Shortly after shooting Morrison, Kuemper turned the gun on himself, taking his own life, the release said. Police found the handgun at the scene.
Both Kuemper and Morrison, of 4013 Bonhill Drive in unincorporated Arlington Heights, were pronounced dead at the scene, the Cook County Medical Examiner's office said.
