2 Men Claiming Abuse By Ex-Priest Sue Archdiocese
CHICAGO (STMW) - Two more young men filed suit Thursday claiming that Daniel McCormack sexually abused them when he served as pastor at St. Agatha parish in the Lawndale community on the West Side.
Both men, ages 23 and 24, who listed their names as John G. and John H. Doe in individual lawsuits, claim that McCormack sexually abused them while he served as pastor at St. Agatha parish, 3151 W. Douglas Blvd, according to both lawsuits filed in Cook County Circuit Court.
One of the young men claim that between 2000-2003, he was abused more than 30 times while in 7th grade and through his freshmen year in high school, according to the suit.
The suit claims that the Archdiocese of Chicago, the Catholic Bishop of Chicago and Cardinal Frances George owed reasonable care to protect the young men from inappropriate sexual touching, contact and abuse by McCormack.
The two-count suit claims negligence and battery and seeks more than $100,000 in damages.
McCormack was sentenced to five years in prison after pleading guilty in 2007 to charges he fondled five boys. It was unclear from court papers whether the boys in these cases were among the victims in the criminal case. McCormack remains behind bars.
Susan Burritt, spokeswoman for the Archdiocese of Chicago, said that she had not seen the lawsuits and therefore could not comment.
