2 Killed, 4 Wounded In Gary Shooting
In the 9300 block of Sunrise in the Miller beach area of Gary a large group of people were outside at about 4 this morning and according to Gary Police Chief Wade Ingram someone started shooting.
One person was dead at the scene and another died at the hospital. Four others were wounded, one in critical condition and three others in fair condition.
Police arrested one man, who was held for questioning early Saturday.
Vincent Wainwright, 32, a resident of the Sunrise subdivision off County Line Road in Miller, was pronounced dead at 5 a.m. outside 9321 Sunrise Blvd.
A second man, DaVaughn Pitts, 18, was pronounced dead at the Methodist Hospitals Northlake campus shortly before 5 a.m.
Police said Wainwright and others argued with a group of people from the city's Aetna section at Murphy's House of Pain on U.S. 12, then left.
"It is basically a quiet area from what I have been told from my officers, not a lot of problems in that area. A pretty quiet block," said Ingram.
Two witnesses were also arrested after they became uncooperative and abusive to police. They were being held Saturday at the Gary lockup.
