2 Hurt, 150 Gallons Of Fuel Spilled In Jane Addams Tollway Crash
HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. (CBS) -- Two people were hurt, and 150 gallons of fuel ended up on the pavement, when a semi slammed into a dump truck on the Jane Addams Memorial Tollway early Friday.
The crash happened at 2:26 a.m. when a semi-trailer truck carrying mixed freight struck a dump truck in the right lane of a two-lane construction zone, according to an Illinois State Police Tollway District master sergeant.
The drivers of both vehicles were taken with non-life-threatening injuries to St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates, the master sergeant said.
The crash caused 150 gallons of diesel fuel to spill onto the expressway, according to the master sergeant. Crews were cleaning up the spill as of 5:15 a.m. but both lanes through the construction zone were open.
The semi failed to slow down and crashed into the dump truck, destroying the back of the dump truck, according to the master sergeant. The dump truck was carrying asphalt and debris from the construction zone.
