2 Hospitalized After Fire At Sheridan Road High-Rise
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Two people were hospitalized Sunday night when a fire broke out in a prominent high-rise building in the Edgewater neighborhood.
More than 100 firefighters responded around 8:25 p.m. to the Park Tower Condominiums, at 5415 N. Sheridan Rd., when a fire broke out on the 51st floor of the 55-story building, fire officials said.
Two people were taken from the scene to Weiss Memorial Hospital in good condition, fire officials said. The nature of their injuries was not immediately learned.
The blaze, which was elevated to a still-and-box alarm, was contained to one unit and was extinguished at 8:37 p.m.
Park Tower Condominiums is the second tallest building in Chicago outside of downtown.
It was completed in 1973, and together with Lake Point Tower and Harbor Point Tower downtown, it is one of three Chicago skyscrapers composed of three rounded lobes and black Miesian windows, Emporis.com pointed out.
