2 Held In Lakeview Dunkin' Donuts Robbery
CHICAGO (CBS) - At least two people were in police custody Wednesday morning, after an attempted robbery and police chase that started in the Lakeview neighborhood.
It all started at a Dunkin' Donuts in a shopping center at 3000 N. Ashland Ave. An employee said two suspects – one of them armed – confronted him inside the shop at 11:30 a.m.
"He showed a gun and said, 'Hey motherf----r give me the money or I'll shoot you,'" the staffer said.
The employee said he locked the register and ran in the back and called police.
The worker described the gunman as wearing a red cap and a black shirt, and said the second robber was heavy-set.
Police began following a vehicle wanted in an armed robbery about 12:10 a.m., police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro.
The suspects were wanted in a rash of robberies of gas stations and Dunkin' Donuts, according to Shakespeare District police Capt. Marc Buslik.
The chase continued south on Ashland Avenue past North Avenue and also went onto the Kennedy Expressway, according to Buslik.
Buslik said the suspects got off the expressway on the Near West Side.
Alfaro said the chase ended more than three miles away at the intersection of Adams Street and Bell Avenue – where at least two people were taken into custody.
No one was injured in the incident, Alfaro said.
A Monroe District police sergeant said there were three suspects in custody early Wednesday.
No charges had been filed as of early Wednesday morning.
