2 Dead In 6-Vehicle Crash On Dan Ryan
CHICAGO (CBS) -- The winter storm turned deadly overnight, as a six-vehicle accident killed two people on the Dan Ryan Expressway.
The crash happened around 11:15 p.m. in the outbound local lanes of the Dan Ryan near 47th Street. Two semi-trailer trucks, a bus with nine passengers, two cars and a minivan were involved, Illinois State police told the Sun-Times Media Wire.
State police say one of semis spun out of control and caused a chain reaction. The other semi stopped in an attempt to avoid the wreck, when the minivan struck it in the rear, the wire reported.
A man in the minivan was dead at the scene, while a woman with him was later pronounced dead at Stroger Hospital of Cook County, the wire reported.
Four others were treated for non-life threatening injuries.
As late as 5 a.m., the local lanes of the outbound Dan Ryan was closed at 47th Street, and traffic was diverted off at 43rd Street. The expressway was back open by 5:30 a.m.
