2 Dead, 8 Wounded In City Shootings
CHICAGO (STMW) - Two men were killed and at least eight others were wounded by gunfire during a violent five hour span throughout the city.
A man -- identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner's office as 20-year-old Keneth Sims -- was fatally shot in the back at 1:12 a.m. in the 1300 block of South Blue Island Avenue, police said. Sims was pronounced dead at 1:51 a.m. at John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, the medical examiner's office said.
At 2:44 a.m., a police found a man shot in the head in the front yard of a home in the 5000 block of South Drexel Boulevard, police said. Ismail Robinson, 22, was dead on the scene, the medical examiner's office said.
At least eight other people were wounded in shootings throughout the city late Friday and early Saturday.
At 9:50 p.m. Friday, a 17-year-old girl standing in the 6400 block of South Wood Street was shot in the face when shots were fired from across the street, police said. She was taken in good condition to Stroger Hospital, police said.
At 10:37 p.m. Friday, a man was shot in the leg in the 2800 block of West Augusta Boulevard and was taken in good condition to Stroger Hospital, police said.
About 30 minutes later, a gunman inside a red vehicle shot a 15-year-old boy standing in the 5100 block of South Rockwell Street, police said. He was taken in good condition to Holy Cross Hospital. The shooting appears to be gang-related.
Just before midnight, two 26-year-old men were wounded in a shooting in the 1400 block of South Trumbull Avenue, police said. A man inside a vehicle was shot in the chest and drove himself to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he is listed in good condition. A man on the street was shot in the chin and is in "stable" condition at the hospital.
At 12:20 a.m., an 18-year-old man was shot in the abdomen area in the 200 block of West 109th Street and taken in critical condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, police said.
At 1:33 a.m., a male was shot in the abdomen area in the 3400 block of North Milwaukee Avenue and taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, police said. His age and condition were not immediately known.
About 15 minutes later, a man in his 20s was shot in the back in the 1300 block of West 13th Street and taken in good condition to the University of Chicago Hospitals, police said.
Chicago Police detectives are investigating the shootings, but nobody is in custody early Saturday.
