2 Dead, 6 Wounded In Wednesday Shootings

CHICAGO (STMW) -- Two men were killed and at least six other people were wounded in shootings Wednesday across Chicago.

About 11:15 a.m., a man was shot to death in the South Chicago neighborhood.

Devante Warnsby, 21, was walking in the 8400 block of South Essex when a gray car pulled up and a male inside opened fire, police and the Cook County medical examiner's office said.

Warnsby, of the 8400 block of South Oglesby, was shot in the head and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead at 9 p.m., authorities said.

Earlier Wednesday morning, a 24-year-old man was fatally shot in the Logan Square neighborhood on the Northwest Side, police said.

He was walking in the 2700 block of West Bloomingdale shortly before 3 a.m. when a light-colored vehicle pulled up and someone with a gun got out and shot him in the armpit, police said. The shooter got back in the vehicle, which took off north through an alley.

The man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he later died, police said. The medical examiner's office could not immediately confirm the fatality.

The most recent nonfatal shooting happened about 10:10 p.m. in the South Chicago neighborhood.

A 38-year-old man was arguing with another male in the 8600 block of South Muskegon when the other male pulled out a gun and shot him in the left thigh, police said. The man's family drove him to Advocate Trinity Hospital, where his condition had stabilized, police said.

About 9 p.m., a 17-year-old boy was seriously wounded in a shooting in the West Elsdon neighborhood on the Southwest Side.

The teen was in the 3700 block of West 57th Place when a gray sedan drove past and someone inside opened fire, police said. He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where his condition had stabilized.

About five hours earlier, a man was critically hurt in a shooting in the South Side Englewood neighborhood.

The man, 20, was standing standing outside a home in the 7000 block of South Stewart about 4:50 p.m. when a gray minivan pulled up, police said. Someone got out of the minivan, fired shots and got back in the vehicle which drove off southbound on Stewart.

The man was shot in the head and taken in critical condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, police said.

Less than an hour earlier, a man was hurt in a shooting in the Pullman neighborhood on the South Side.

The man, 33, was standing on the street in the 9900 block of South Ellis Avenue about 3:25 p.m. when three people walked up to him, police said. They exchanged words and one of the three pulled out a gun and started shooting.

The man was shot in the ankle and taken in good condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, police said.

About 5:45 a.m., a bullet grazed the back of a 25-year-old man's head in an Avondale neighborhood shooting on the Northwest Side.

The man was walking in the 3000 block of North Kedzie when he heard shots and felt pain, police said. He was taken to Community First Medical Center in fair condition.

Less than three hours earlier, a male showed up at a Far South Side hospital after he was shot in the West Pullman neighborhood.

The victim, a male whose age wasn't immediately available, showed up at Roseland Community Hospital about 3:15 a.m. with a gunshot wound to the ankle, police said. He told investigators he was shot in the 11900 block of South Michigan. His condition was stabilized, police said.
