2 Dead, 22 Others Shot Over Weekend In Chicago
CHICAGO (CBS) -- One man was killed and another wounded in an overnight shooting in the Chatham neighborhood.
Police say the victims were standing on the sidewalk near 80th Street and Normal around 10 p.m. on Sunday when two people walked up and started shooting.
A 40-year-old man tried to run, but was found dead on the back porch of a nearby home. A 36-year-old man was shot in the foot and is listed in stable condition at Stroger Hospital.
Police say the second victim does have gang ties.
So far, police do not have a suspect in custody.
Meanwhile, a 53-year-old man is recovering from a gunshot wound after a shooting the the Auburn-Gresham neighborhood.
Police say he was walking into a house near 84th and Hermitage around 1 a.m. when he took a bullet to the stomach. His is hospitalized in stable condition.
Those latest incidents of violence come on the heels of 22 other shootings over the weekend, including two deaths.
Overall, Chicago police say shootings are down 23 percent so far this year.
Murders are down 26 percent and overall crime is down 15 percent.
