2 Dead, 12 Wounded In Weekend Violence
CHICAGO (STMW) -- Two men are dead and at least another 12 were wounded from acts of violence this weekend throughout the city, from the South and Southwest side to Humboldt Park to Rogers Park.
Early Sunday, Kenneth Johnson, 49, was stabbed to death in his home in the 11400 block of South Rockwell Street, police said. He was pronounced dead at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn at 3:50 a.m., according to the medical examiner's office.
Johnson's 24-year-old son was taken into custody in connection with the slaying, and was undergoing treatment at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn for injuries he sustained during the altercation, police said. No charges have been filed as of Sunday night.
The weekend's sole shooting death occurred Saturday about 9:47 a.m. in the 7800 block of South Muskegon Avenue, according to police News Affairs Officer Veejay Zala.
Antonio Grey, 26, suffered a gunshot wound to the chest and was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he later died, authorities said. Grey, of the 8100 block of South Muskegon Avenue, was shot to death blocks from his home.
Twelve other people were wounded in acts of violence since Friday night.
Two people were stabbed in the Chatham neighborhood Sunday night. The attack happened about 5:20 p.m. in the 500 block of East 87th Street, police said. A woman was stabbed in the face and body and in critical condition, and a man was stabbed in the stomach and in "stable" condition, police said. Both were taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.
A couple suffered stab wounds during a 'domestic altercation' Sunday evening in the 500 block of East 82nd Street, police said. A 44-year-old woman was in critical condition and a 59-year-old man was "stable" at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, police said. No charges had been filed late Sunday.
About 1 p.m. Sunday, a 14-year-old boy was shot in the buttocks in the 2100 block of West 37th Street, police said. The boy was taken in good condition to Mount Sinai Hospital.
About 3:51 a.m. Sunday, a 30-year-old man was shot in the forehead in the 7100 block of South Maplewood Avenue in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood, police said.
His vehicle was double-parked in the street, impeding vehicles attempting to drive past, police said. The victim got into an argument with the driver of a vehicle attempting to pass, who returned with a weapon and shot the victim in the head, police said.
He was taken in "stable" condition to Advocate Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn, police said.
About 15 minutes earlier, a 25-year-old woman was shot in the chest and hip while in her car in the 7500 block of South Coles Avenue in the South Shore neighborhood, authorities said.
She was taken in critical condition to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, fire officials said.
About 1:36 a.m. a 35-year-old man was shot in the leg in the 2800 block of North Melvina Avenue, police said.
The man's condition, as well as the hospital he was taken to, were not immediately known.
About 9:10 p.m. Saturday, a man was shot in the 3300 block of South Ashland Avenue, police said. The 30-year-old man was shot twice in the leg and taken in "stable" condition to Mercy Hospital and Medical Center.
About 5:30 a.m. Saturday, a 21-year-old man was standing across the street from his home in the 2400 block of South Troy Street when a silver-colored vehicle with several occupants drove by and a rear seat passenger exited and shot him multiple times, police said.
The victim, who has gang affiliations, according to police, was taken in critical condition to Mount Sinai Hospital. The shooting was believed to be gang-related.
Two cousins, ages 19 and 22, were wounded in a shooting at 3:34 a.m. Saturday in the North Side Rogers Park neighborhood.
The shooting occurred in the 1600 block of West Jonquil Terrace, police said. The two cousins were part of a group of people who were standing on the corner when they were about to get into their vehicle, police said. At that point a black vehicle drove by and someone inside opened fire on them, police said.
Both men -- the 19-year-old in critical condition and the 22-year-old in serious condition -- were taken to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, police said.
About 2:20 a.m. Saturday, a 23-year-old man was shot in the Humboldt Park neighborhood while walking his dog in the 3900 block of West Thomas Street, police said.
He suffered gunshot wounds to the wrist, shoulder and back, police said.
He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in serious condition, according to police. The shooting may have been gang-related, since the victim has gang affiliations, according to police.
About 8:15 p.m. on Friday night a 21-year-old man walked into Saint Bernard Hospital with a gunshot wound to his side, police said. He told authorities that he had been shot in the 7200 block of South Normal Avenue.
