2 Dead, 13 Wounded In Weekend Shootings In Chicago
CHICAGO (STMW) -- At least six people were wounded in shootings overnight, bringing the total to two dead and at least 13 wounded in gun violence in the city since Friday night.
The first shooting took place just before 6 p.m. Friday in Uptown, near Sheridan Road and Wilson Avenue, when shots were fired from a red vehicle traveling east on Wilson, police News Affairs Officer Ronald Gaines said. The vehicle then fled south on Sheridan Road.
The wounded were a 21-year-old shot multiple times and a 20-year-old shot in the side, both taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, and an 18-year-old hit in the thigh and a 35-year-old shot in the hand, foot and thigh, who were both taken to Saint Francis Hospital, Gaines said. He did not know their conditions.
The fire department said paramedics took three men to hospitals in critical condition. Two of the men were taken to Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston and the third was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center.
Just past midnight Saturday, a Kentucky man was shot and killed in the South Side Park Manor neighborhood.
The 23-year-old -- identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner's office as Solomon Coleman -- was walking on the sidewalk in the 7300 block of South Evans Avenue about 12:03 a.m. when he was approached by three males who opened fire, police said.
He was struck twice in the head, police said.
Coleman, of 180 Caldwell in Lexington, Ky., was pronounced dead at Stroger Hospital at 12:45 a.m. after being shot at 7351 S. Coles Ave., according to the medical examiner's office.
About 12:30 a.m. a 17-year-old boy was critically wounded in a shooting in Garfield Park on the West Side.
The shooting occurred in the 200 block of South Homan Avenue, police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro said.
Friends of the teen took him to Stroger Hospital, according to News Affairs Officer Darryl Baety. Police were behind the van his friends were driving as they got to the hospital, Baety said.
The boy was in critical condition with two gunshot wounds to the chest and a gunshot wound to the ankle.
Four people were arrested after a brief pursuit 30 minutes later, police said.
A man in his 20s was killed and another person wounded after an apparent drive-by shooting in the Northwest Side Albany Park neighborhood Saturday morning.
The two were shot in an alley in the 4000 block of North Kimball Avenue about 5:08 a.m. in an apparent drive-by, police said.
Abraham Perez, 20, was shot in the back and taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. The other was shot in the leg and taken to Swedish Covenant Hospital in "stable" condition.
About 2:30 p.m., 20-year-old man was shot in the neck in the 6000 block of South Francisco Avenue, Gaines said.
He was taken in critical condition to Stroger Hospital.
About 1:23 a.m. Sunday, a 20-year-old man was shot in the buttocks in the 1500 block of 72nd Street, Gaines said.
Less than ten minutes later, two men, an 18-year-old and a 28-year-old, were shot in the 2700 block of West 50th Street, police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer said, citing preliminary information. They were both in "stable" condition and Mount Sinai Hospital.
The 18-year-old was shot multiple times and the 28-year-old man was shot in the shoulder, police said.
About 1:50 a.m., a man and woman were wounded when a group of males fired shots at the two in the 500 block of North Avers Street, police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli said.
The 18-year-old woman was struck in the leg and taken in good condition to Norwegian-American Hospital, and the 41-year-old man was shot in the groin and taken in "stable" condition to Stroger Hospital, Mirabelli said.
About 4:15 a.m. Sunday, a man in his 30s was shot as he sat in a car in the 4600 block of North Broadway, Mirabelli said.
The man suffered a gunshot wound to the left side of his waist, Mirabelli said. The car he was driving sustained gunshots, as well, Mirabelli said. It was not yet known as of later Sunday morning if the car was parked or moving when the shooting occurred. This shooting happened about a block from Friday night's shooting where four people were wounded at Sheridan and Wilson.
