2 Dead, 10 Wounded In Shootings Wednesday
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Two men have been killed and at least 10 other people have been wounded in shootings Wednesday across Chicago.
The most recent fatal shooting happened Wednesday morning in Englewood.
The 28-year-old man was sitting in a vehicle with friends in the 5700 block of South Emerald at 10:54 a.m. when they heard gunshots, according to Chicago Police. They got out of the vehicle and started running, and the 28-year-old was shot multiples times in the torso. He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Another man was shot to death about 4:15 a.m. in the South Side Back of the Yards neighborhood.
The 24-year-old man was sitting in a vehicle in the 5400 block of South Bishop when he was shot in the neck, chest and arm, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Cook County medical examiner's office confirmed the deaths but has not yet identified either man.
The most recent nonfatal shooting happened in the West Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side.
A 28-year-old man was exiting a van about 10:40 p.m. in the 4500 block of West Maypole when shots rang out, according to police. He was shot in the abdomen and took himself to Loretto Hospital. He was later transferred to Stroger Hospital in serious condition. A police source said the man is a documented gang member.
Several hours earlier, a man was shot in a drive-by attack in the South Side Chatham neighborhood. The 20-year-old was outside at 7:04 p.m. in the 400 block of East 79th when two cars drove by and someone inside one of them fired at him, police said. He was shot in the arm, leg, abdomen and buttocks and taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.
Earlier Wednesday afternoon, a teenager was shot multiple times in the Avalon Park neighborhood on the South Side. The 15-year-old boy was shot at 4:46 p.m. in the 8000 block of Avalon after a person got out of a van and began shooting at him on the street, police said. He was struck in the back, abdomen, foot and arm and taken to Comer Children's Hospital where his condition was stabilized.
A 3:04 p.m., a 21-year-old man was shot in the South Austin neighborhood on the West Side. He was standing outside at 3:04 p.m. in the 700 block of North Lotus when he heard shots and realized he was struck, according to police. He was shot in the back and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where his condition was stabilized.
A man was grazed by a bullet at 2:46 p.m. in the Far South Side West Pullman neighborhood. The 21-year-old's chest was grazed by a bullet in the 12000 block of South Normal, police said. He was taken to Roseland Community Hospital in good condition.
Earlier Wednesday morning, a man was shot in the South Side Washington Park neighborhood. The shooting happened at 10:57 a.m. in the 5900 block of South King, according to police. The 33-year-old was shot in the back and arm, and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.
About 7:15 a.m., a man was shot in the Little Village neighborhood on the Southwest Side. The 42-year-old man was in the 2900 block of West 25th Place when a vehicle drove by and someone inside fired shots, police said. He was shot twice in the back, and was taken in serious condition to Mount Sinai Hospital.
About 3:45 a.m., a man was wounded in the South Side Grand Crossing neighborhood. The 56-year-old man was walking home in the 1300 block of East 75th when he saw someone shooting at an abandoned house, police said. The shooter saw the man, turned and fired at him. He was shot in the forearm and taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.
About three hours earlier, a man was seriously wounded in the East Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side. The 23-year-old was in the 500 block of North Kedzie at 12:53 a.m. when a vehicle approached and he got into an argument with a passenger, who pulled out a gun and fired shots, police said. He suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was taken in serious condition to Stroger Hospital. At least one person was taken into custody and charges were pending.
Wednesday's first shooting happened at 12:05 a.m. in the West Side Austin neighborhood. A 31-year-old man was sitting on a parked motorcycle in the 5400 block of West Walton when he heard shots and realized he'd been hit, police said. He was shot in the left leg and was taken to West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Lawn in good condition.
