2 Dead, 11 Wounded In Shootings Since Monday Evening
CHICAGO (STMW) -- Two people were killed and another 11 wounded in shootings across the city Monday evening to early Tuesday.
In the Little Village neighborhood, a man killed his wife and 5-year-old daughter before trying to kill himself, authorities said.
Officers discovered the three when they arrive at the single-story home in the 2800 block of South Kildare about 12:15 a.m., finding 28-year-old Kelly Coca and her daughter, Carla Eguez, each with a gunshot wound to the head, authorities said. They were both pronounced dead at the scene.
The man, who has yet to be identified, survived his suicide attempt and is listed in critical condition at Mount Sinai Hospital, police said.
Most recently, a female was shot in the head in the East Garfield Park neighborhood. She was shot at 1:53 a.m. in the 300 block of South Mozart Street and taken to an area hospital in critical condition, police said. Her age was not immediately known.
About an hour earlier, two men were shot in the 800 block of West 59th Street in Englewood. A 32-year old man, who police said had gang affiliations, was shot in the neck and leg and was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County in critical condition. A 26-year-old man was shot in the abdomen and was taken to Saint Bernard Hospital and Health Care Center in "stable" condition, police said.
About 9 p.m., a 17-year-old boy was shot in the wrist in the West Side Austin neighborhood. He was standing with an acquaintance in the 5500 block of West Potomac Avenue when somebody in a four-door vehicle fired a handgun at him, police said. He was taken to West Suburban Medical Center in "stable" condition. Police said the shooting hay have been gang-related, although the motive was still under investigation.
About 7:15 p.m., a 20-year-old man was shot in the arm in the 7100 block of South Michigan Avenue, police said. He was taken to Saint Bernard Hospital in good condition, authorities said.
A half hour earlier, a 13-year-old boy was shot in the foot near East 75th Street and South Ingleside Avenue, police said. He was taken to University of Chicago Comer Children's Hospital in good condition, fire officials said.
At 6:14 p.m., an 18-year-old man apparently shot himself in the thigh and groin in the 11600 block of South Wentworth Avenue, authorities said. He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in "stable" condition.
About the same time, two people were wounded in a gang-related shooting in the 1300 block of West Washburne that was possibly gang related. A 21-year-old man suffered a graze wound to the head, and a person in their 50s was shot and critically wounded, authorities said. Both were treated at John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County.
The shooting started about 4:40 p.m., when a 23-year-old man was shot in the neck near South Loomis and West 13th streets, police said.
He was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition, fire officials said.
