2 Cops Among 9 Hurt When Squad Car Hits CTA Bus
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A CTA driver was critically injured and eight other people were hurt early Sunday in a chain-reaction crash on the South Side that involveda bus, a squad car and other vehicles.
The crash between a squad car and a CTA bus happened about 11 p.m. near 79th and Halsted streets, Gresham District police said.
A southbound No. 8 Halsted bus and an eastbound police vehicle collided, and the chain reaction wreck also injured people in nearby vehicles, CTA spokeswoman Molly Sullivan said. No CTA customers were on the bus at the time of the crash.
A total of nine people were taken to area hospitals following the crash, including the bus driver, who was in serious-to-critical condition, Fire Media Affairs Chief Joe Roccasalva said.
The driver's condition has stabilized as of early Sunday, Sullivan said.
Five other people were in fair-to-serious condition, while a civilian and two police officers went to area hospitals in good condition, Roccasalva said.
The cause of the crash remained under investigation early Sunday.
