18 Displaced In Albany Park Apartment Building Fire
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Eighteen people were displaced, but no one was injured, in an extra-alarm fire early Thursday in the Albany Park neighborhood.
As CBS 2's Kris Habermehl reports, the 2-11 alarm fire broke out around 4:15 a.m. in a two-story apartment building at 4725 N. Central Park Ave., just southwest of the junction of Kimball and Lawrence avenues.
Both Kimball and Lawrence were congested and obstructed by firefighting equipment.
The fire broke out on the rear porch on the lower floor, and spread throughout the upper floor – including the living quarters.
Firefighters had to cut ventilation holes in the roof as they battled the blaze.
The fire also impinged on the neighboring two-story building, where the exterior siding was left charred.
No injuries were reported, but a total of 18 people were displaced.
The American Red Cross of Greater Chicago sent out a team to help those who were affected.
