17-Year-Old Boy Dies In North Suburban Crash
GRAYSLAKE, Ill. (STMW) - A 17-year-old boy died after the SUV he was driving left the road, striking a telephone pole and tree in north suburban Grayslake early Sunday.
Lake County Sheriff deputies were notified of the crash at 22970 West Chardon Road in unincorporated Lake County about 5:10 a.m., Deputy Sheriff Tom Lex said.
The boy was driving a Ford Escape east on Chardon Road when it neared a curve and left the road, striking a telephone pole and a tree, Lex said.
The boy, who is believed to be a missing suicidal runaway from Mundelein, was dead at the scene, Lex said.
The victim, whose name is being withheld pending family notification, was the only occupant of the SUV and was not wearing a seatbelt, Lex said.
Drugs and alcohol are not believed to have played a role in the crash, Lex said. It is not known if the SUV was traveling at a high rate of speed.
