1,400 Gallons Of Gas Stolen From Suburban Shell Station
WESTCHESTER (STMW) -- Police are investigating two recent incidents in which hundreds of gallons of fuel were stolen from a west suburban gas station, Pioneer Press is reporting.
More than 1,400 gallons of gas were stolen from the Shell station at 10200 Roosevelt Rd. in Westchester after someone tampered with a valve on the pump.
On Jan. 22 or 23, nearly 800 gallons was stolen. A second incident was reported Feb. 4 involving 600 gallons taken between 2:30 a.m. Feb. 2 and 2:30 a.m. Feb. 3.
"Somebody is actually going to the pump and altering the valve," Lt. Jeff Mersch said.
Numerous cars, apparently aware of the tampering, then file through, filling their tanks, he said.
"It's not by accident that the pumps are malfunctioning," he said. "Our investigators are working on it."
