14-Year-Old Boy Charged With Murder In Washington Park

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A grammar school student was ordered held in custody after being charged with murder for Monday night's shooting death of a 17-year-old in the Washington Park neighborhood on the South Side.
The 14-year-old was charged as a juvenile with one count of murder for the fatal shooting of Steven McGee, police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro. His identity is being withheld because of his age, but police said he attends a South Side grammar school.
On Wednesday, he was cited in a juvenile petition with murder, two counts of attempted murder and two counts of aggravated discharge of a weapon, according to Cook County State's Attorney's office spokeswoman Tandra Simonton.
He was ordered held in custody by Judge Stuart Katz, and will next appear in court on Oct. 19, she said.
McGee was walking in the 6000 block of South Prairie Avenue about 5:50 p.m. when two male suspects came out of an alley and opened fire, Alfaro said. He was shot multiple times in the chest and torso.
McGee, of 6133 S. Michigan Ave., was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County where he was pronounced dead at 6:35 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
An autopsy Tuesday determined McGee died of a gunshot wound to the back and his death was ruled a homicide, according to the medical examiner's office.
Both the suspect and the victim were thought to be gang members, police said.
