$137K To Fix Peeling Paint In State Capitol
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (CBS) -- Peeling paint inside the dome of the Illinois State Capitol in Springfield will require expensive repair work.
Heat and humidity caused the peeling in the dome.
The peeling paint was spotted earlier this year on the interior dome above the Capitol's third floor. Illinois Secretary of State's office spokesman Henry Haupt said the peeling sections are in hard-to-reach areas. He says scaffolding will be put up so painters can do the work.
The cost for repairs amounts to about $137,000.
Haupt said officials hope the project will be completed by early January. Lawmakers report to Springfield on Jan. 3.
The state has also had problems with peeling paint in the Capitol on previous occasions.
