12-Year-Old Girl Dies After Being Pulled From Swimming Pool
ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. (STMW) -- A 12-year-old girl died Tuesday morning after she was pulled from a swimming pool in northwest suburban Arlington Heights a day earlier.
Authorities responded to the Tanglewood Apartment Complex at 2134 S. Goebbert Rd. at noon Monday for a call of a possible drowning victim, a statement from Arlington Heights police said.
They found a 12-year-old girl who was unconscious and not breathing.
She had been pulled from the complex swimming pool and was receiving CPR from Tanglewood employees when authorities arrived, police said.
The girl was taken to Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights, then transferred to Lurie Children's Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 8:36 a.m. Tuesday, according to police and the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
Her name was not being released as of Tuesday afternoon.
According to police, the 12-year-old was swimming at the complex, where she was visiting a family friend. Her friend and a cousin saw her in distress and alerted employees.
Her death remains under investigation, but police say foul play is not suspected.
