12-Year-Old Buckeyes Fan Names Brain Cancer 'Michigan' - And He's Beating It
(CBS) For 12-year-old Buckeyes fan Grant Reed, the rallying cry "Beat Michigan" has a profound meaning.
For the past two years, Grant has been battling a cancerous brain tumor he named "Michigan." Now, his life goal is to "Beat Michigan."
Literally.
The son of two former Ohio State marching band members, Grant was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2011. After several rounds of chemotherapy, which Grant recently completed, the doctors' prognosis is good - Grant is beating Michigan.
"We've beaten Michigan in the short term," Grant's father Troy said. "But like any rival there's a chance it can come back."
In December, Grant even received a special visit from Buckeyes head football coach Urban Meyer.
