$1,000 Reward Offered For Info On Shooting Death Of Evanston Man
EVANSTON, Ill. (CBS) -- Cook County Crime Stoppers is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the person who shot to death a 19-year old Evanston man who was standing outside his grandmother's house last fall.
WBBM Newsradio's Bernie Tafoya reports Crime Stoppers will join Carolyn Murray in handing out 1,200 flyers on Saturday in the area near Church Street and Brown Avenue in Evanston, where her son Justin Murray was shot and killed on Nov. 29.
"Crime Stoppers will be assisting us in distributing approximately 1,200 flyers around the crime scene. Just getting some attention to the crime, and hoping that the homicide will be solved by a tip," Carolyn Murray said.
$1,000 Reward In Evanston Murder
Evanston Police Cmdr. Jay Parrott said detectives believe someone has information about Justin Murray's murder, and it's just a matter of getting them to come forward.
"We have some people of interest that we are still looking at," he said.
In February, Carolyn Murray said her son was in Evanston for a weekend visit from college in California, when he was shot while standing outside his grandmother's house in the 1800 block of Brown Avenue.
"He had just got off the plane. It wasn't even four hours, and he was outside with a group of some kids, and gunshots were fired, and my son was killed," she said. "He wanted to be a physical trainer. He was very athletic, so he just enjoyed sports. He was a very loving boy. … He had this wonderful smile, and he just was so happy, and he enjoyed and loved life, and he loved his grandmother."
Carolyn Murray has been working on anti-gun efforts for years. She said her son and her teenage daughter were a part of those efforts.
"It's definitely been a way of life for us", she said.
She attended President Barack Obama's State of the Union Address in February, as a guest of U.S. Rep. Jan Schakowsky, D-IL.
