1,000 Attend Local Foreclosure Prevention Workshop
SOUTH HOLLAND, Ill. (CBS) -- More than 1,000 homeowners showed up Saturday at the South Holland Community Center, where state officials sponsored a program to help people facing foreclosure.
WBBM Newsradio's Mike Krauser reports U.S. Housing and Urban Development regional director Antonio Riley couldn't believe it when he saw the crowd at the Illinois Foreclosure Prevention Network's workshop.
"I was just flabbergasted. One would say, 'You know, it's so great that so many people are here.' Unfortunately, what that means is so many people are in need of assistance," he said.

Among those people was Holly Campbell, of Homewood.
"I lost my job two years ago. I have a master's degree in non-profit. I have housing background, media background, and just lost my job, and really wasn't able to replace it," she said.
Mary Kenney, executive director of the Illinois Housing Development Authority, said, "It's a ground war. It's not an air war. I mean, you really have to get to each family in order to help. So, it's not easy, but we're going to continue to work really hard here in Illinois."
Some homeowners are able to walk out of these quarterly foreclosure prevention workshops with a home loan modification.
