10-Vehicle Pileup Shuts Down Route 53 In Palatine
PALATINE, Ill. (CBS) -- A 10-vehicle pileup shut down Route 53 in Palatine early Tuesday.
Nine cars and a semi truck were involved in a crash about 4:05 a.m. on southbound Route 53 at the Northwest Highway, according to Illinois State Police District Chicago Master Sergeant Joe Stangl.
Dispatch reports indicated that the truck was hanging over the edge of the highway, but police could not confirm that information.
Two people were taken an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Stangl said.
Slick road conditions stemming from the weather were being blamed for the crash, according to Stangl. Crews were working to salt the road Tuesday morning.
All southbound lanes were open as of 7 a.m., according to state police.
