10 Hurt In School Bus Crash In Crown Point, Ind.
CROWN POINT (STMW) -- Ten people were treated for minor injuries after a Friday morning crash involving two buses at the intersection of Indiana and Greenwood avenues in Crown Point, Ind.
A Crown Point Community School Corp. bus was stopped at the light on Indiana Avenue about 8:48 a.m. when it was hit from behind by a bus carrying clients to the Arc Bridges south center in Crown Point. Arc Bridges spokeswoman Sue Crisman said the center contracts out the bus service.
Crown Point Fire Chief Greg DeLor said the Crown Point bus carried an estimated 50 children while the bus headed to Arc Bridges had five passengers.
Eight children from the Crown Point bus were taken to Saint Anthony Medical Center in Crown Point. Hospital spokesman Bill Bero said the children were treated and released.
They included five boys -- one age 5, three age 8 and one age 9. Also treated were three girls -- two age 7 and one age 9.
DeLor said the students mostly complained of pain and none were seriously injured.
Two adults on the Arc Bridges-bound bus were transported to The Methodist Hospitals in Merrillville. Hospital spokeswoman Evelyn Morrison said the hospital treated and released a man and a woman from the bus accident.
Crown Point Schools officials in a statement said the district activated its accident scene protocol and students who were cleared at the scene were transferred to another bus and brought to school.
