Car, 1-Year-Old Found After Being Taken From Fireworks Store Parking Lot

HAMMOND, Ind. (CBS) -- A year-old toddler – briefly the subject of an Amber Alert on Thursday – was found safe hours after the car he was sitting in was taken following a burglary at a Hammond, Ind. fireworks store.
The child was reunited with his mother Thursday evening on the South Side. Police say he was found alone inside his mother's car at 103rd Street and South Vernon Avenue.
It happened at 1:45 p.m. at Uncle Sam's Fireworks at 4218 Calumet Avenue when a black male and black female in their 40s took the car. Police told CBS 2 they may have been trying to steal fireworks from the store.
The vehicle -- a maroon 2002 Pontiac Grand Am with Illinois plates P708343 -- was registered in Chicago.
According to the Northwest Indiana Times, the boy's parents told Hammond police that they were buying fireworks from a man and woman in that area when the individuals stole their car with their son inside.
Police told CBS 2 that the mother thinks she knows the people who took her child, identified as Jamara Strong.
The relationship between the child's mother and the suspects was also not immediately known.
