1 Killed, 9 Wounded In Monday Shootings Across Chicago
CHICAGO (STMW) -- A man was killed and nine other people—including two men in their 70s—were shot across Chicago in less seven hours starting Monday afternoon, according to Chicago Police.
The fatal shooting happened about 8:20 p.m. in Humboldt Park's 1100 block of North Keeler.
Two men—ages 24 and 21—were in a red van traveling in the 1100 block of North Keeler when several males shot at them from across the street, police said.
The 24-year-old driver, identified as Hughvon Polk, was shot in the left side of his chest and left arm, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner's office.
Polk, of the 2800 block of West Flournoy, was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he died at 9:06 p.m., authorities said.
The younger man was shot in the left hand and suffered a graze wound to his left arm. He was taken to Norwegian American Hospital, where he was listed in good condition.
The latest non-fatal shooting occurred about 6 p.m., when three men were shot in the Austin neighborhood. They were in the 1100 block of North Cicero when two people walked up and opened fire, police said.
One man, 26, was shot in the head and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in serious condition, police said.
A 42-year-old man was shot in the upper right arm and taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood. The other man, 24, was shot in the upper body and taken to Stroger Hospital, police said. Their conditions were not available.
About 5:30 p.m., a 76-year-old man was shot in the knee during a robbery attempt in the 2700 block of South Karlov in Little Village, police said. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in serious condition.
At 4:20 p.m., another man was shot in the Humboldt Park neighborhood. The 25-year-old suffered a gunshot wound to the arm in the 1400 block of North Kildare, but police did not provide additional details.
About 2 p.m. in North Lawndale, a 72-year-old man and a 29-year-old man were shot in the 1500 block of South Kolin. The elderly man was shot in the foot, and the younger in the shoulder, police said. Both were taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where their conditions stabilized.
The afternoon's first shooting happened in the Back of the Yards neighborhood about 1:30 p.m., when an 18-year-old man was shot in the abdomen in the 5100 block of South Lowe, police said. Further details were not available.
Six people were killed and another 35 were wounded in shootings across Chicago between Friday afternoon and early Monday.
