1 Killed, 7 Wounded In Shootings Overnight
CHICAGO (STMW) -- One man was killed and at least seven others were injured in shootings across Chicago since Monday evening.
Jerald Calhoun, 29, of the 700 block of West 59th Street, was shot and killed less than a mile from his home, according to police and the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
About 7:30 p.m., Calhoun and a 35-year-old man were in a vehicle travelling southbound on Morgan Street - near 59th Street - when a white car pulled alongside it and someone inside opened fire, police said. Calhoun was shot in the chest and taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, where he was pronounced dead at 8:20 p.m., authorities said.
Meanwhile, the 35-year-old was shot in the right leg and taken to Saint Bernard Hospital and Health Care Center in good condition.
Most recently, a bullet grazed a man's head after a robbery in the Englewood neighborhood.
The shooting occurred about 12:30 a.m. as the 28-year-old man was sitting in his car in the 8300 block of South Aberdeen Street, police said. The suspect approached the man's vehicle and demanded money.
The man handed his money over, but the suspect opened fire and a bullet grazed the side of his head, police added.
The man was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in good condition, police said.
About two hours earlier, a man and woman were shot in the Humboldt Park neighborhood on the West Side. The two were sitting inside a van about 11 p.m. in the 3500 block of West Ohio Street when they heard gunshots and realized they were struck, police said.
The man, 29, suffered a gunshot wound to the leg while the woman, 38, was shot in the ankle, police said. They were both taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition.
Earlier Monday night, a 20-year-old man drove himself to a Northwest Side hospital after he was shot in the chest in the Belmont Cragin neighborhood.
The man was shot just after 8:30 p.m. in the 5300 block of West Palmer Street, police said. He drove himself to Our Lady of the Resurrection Medical Center, but was later transferred to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center.
He is listed in "stable but serious" condition, police said.
About 7 p.m., a 19-year-old man was shot in the knee as he sat in a vehicle in the 400 block of South Pulaski Road, police said. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in "stable" condition.
The first shooting of the evening happened about 6:20 p.m. in the 8900 block of South Brandon Avenue. A 17-year-old boy suffered a graze wound to his foot and was taken to Advocate Trinity Hospital in good condition, police said.
No one is in custody for any of the shootings as area detectives investigate.
