1 Killed, 4 Wounded In Shootings Since Thursday Evening
CHICAGO (CBS) -- One person was killed and four others wounded in shootings across the city since Thursday evening.
Jose Melendez, of the 4800 block of West Cortland Street, suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where he died at 11:20 p.m. Thursday, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
Melendez, 23, was walking in the 2000 block of North Lamon Avenue when shots were fired from a dark-colored sports-utility vehicle about 10:40 p.m., said police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer.
The injured were all men in their 20s, according to police, with the first shooting of the evening happening at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
The man was walking in the 200 block of North St. Louis Avenue when he heard shots and felt pain, police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer said.
The 27-year-old man was taken in stable condition to Mount Sinai Hospital with gunshot wounds to the ankle and leg.
Less than an hour later, two people were shot just minutes apart, according to police.
A 19-year-old man was walking in the 2800 block of East 90th Street at 6:05 p.m. when he heard gunshots from behind him and felt pain, police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer said.
The man was taken in good condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn with a gunshot wound to the leg.
At 6:15 p.m., an unknown gunman approached on foot and opened fire on a 22-year-old man in the 2500 block of North Mango Avenue, police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer said. The gunman then got into a white vehicle and fled the scene.
The man was taken in stable condition to Our Lady of Resurrection Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the arm and a graze wound to the abdomen.
Later, a man was seriously injured in a shooting on the West Side.
The male, whose age is unknown, was shot in the 1400 block of South Spaulding Avenue at 12:40 a.m., according to police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer. He was shot in the head.
The male was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, though his condition is unknown.
No one is in custody for any of the shootings.
