1 Killed, 3 Wounded In Separate Shootings 1 Mile, And 10 Minutes, Apart
CHICAGO (CBS) -- One man was killed and another was injured in a shooting at 71st Street and Western Avenue Monday night.
The shooting happened just a mile away from, and 10 minutes after, another shooting that wounded two people.
Police say around 10:25 p.m. Monday, a suspect opened fire on two men – ages 31 and 54 – and shot both in the chest. The men had just gotten into a car after shopping at the Walgreens drugstore at 7111 S. Western Ave.
The younger man, identified as Willie Stallworth of the 5500 block of South Honore Street, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
The older man, who was Stallworth's uncle, was reported in stable condition at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, police said.
Police initially said the shooting happened during a robbery attempt, but detectives are still investigating a motive early Tuesday.
Just 10 minutes earlier at 10:15 p.m., a 16-year-old boy and a 20-year-old man were wounded in a shooting about a mile north at the 6400 block of South Claremont Avenue, police said. Claremont Avenue is half a block east of Western Avenue.
The two were arguing with several other men, when someone fired shots.
The boy was shot in the right side of the chest and taken in critical condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, police said.
The 20-year-old man was shot in the right thigh, police said. He was initially taken in serious condition to Mount Sinai Hospital but his condition has since stabilized.
No one was reported in custody in connection with either shooting as of Tuesday morning.
