1 Killed, 20 Wounded In Thursday Shootings Across Chicago
CHICAGO (STMW) -- A woman was killed and at least 20 more people were wounded in shootings across Chicago on Thursday, officials said.
The group was standing outside when a gold Buick with four people inside pulled up and two gunmen opened fire from the back seat, according to Chicago Police.
A 37-year-old woman who was shot in the head died on the way to Holy Cross Hospital, police said. Family members at the hospital identified her as Chanda Foreman.
Two men were taken in critical condition to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn. One, 33, was shot in the neck and the other, 25, suffered gunshot wounds to the arm, side and back. A 45-year-old woman shot in the arm was taken to Little Company of Mary Hospital in Evergreen Park along with a 54-year-old woman with wounds to the leg and foot, police said. They were in fair-to-serious condition, according to the Chicago Fire Department.
Police said the shooting was gang-related. The Cook County medical examiner's office could not immediately provide more information.
The latest nonfatal shooting happened at 11:40 p.m. in the Northwest Side Portage Park neighborhood. A 28-year-old man told police he was walking in the 4000 block of North Laporte when he was approached by two males who announced a robbery and showed a weapon, police said. The 28-year-old then pulled out a gun and shot a 19-year-old man in the neck while the second male ran off. The younger man was taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center in critical condition.
About an hour earlier, an 18-year-old man was wounded in a Lawndale neighborhood drive-by shooting on the West Side. He was outside about 10:40 p.m. near 19th Street and St. Louis Avenue when a black SUV drove by and someone inside opened fire, police said. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition with a gunshot wound to the right hand and a graze wound to the left leg, police said.
Two women, 25 and 23, were shot about ten minutes earlier in the South Side Park Manor neighborhood. They were approached by two males about 10:30 p.m. in the 7400 block of South Langley, and one pulled out a gun and opened fire. The 23-year-old was shot in the abdomen and taken to Jackson Park Hospital and the 25-year-old was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital with a gunshot wound to the hand, police said. Both of their conditions were stabilized.
A 34-year-old woman was shot 9:20 p.m. in the 2200 block of West Van Buren on the Near West Side. She heard shots and realized she'd been struck in the hip, police said. Her condition was stabilized at Stroger Hospital.
Half an hour earlier in the Chatham neighborhood on the South Side, a 34-year-old woman was shot in the hip in the 8100 block of South Cottage Grove about 6:45 p.m. and taken in serious condition to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn. She was not cooperating with investigators, police said.
About 4 p.m. in the Austin neighborhood on the West Side, someone got out of a maroon van in the 5200 block of West Le Moyne, shot an 18-year-old woman in both forearms and took off in the vehicle, police said. The woman was taken in good condition to West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park.
At 2:27 p.m., a 24-year-old man heard gunfire in Englewood's 1500 block of West 62nd Street on the South Side and realized he'd been shot in the foot, police said. He was taken to Christ Medical Center, where he was listed in good condition.
Just after 2 p.m. in the West Side Humboldt Park neighborhood, a 20-year-old woman was standing outside with a 16-year-old boy in the 900 block of North Harding when a white vehicle drove by and someone inside opened fire. The boy was shot in the chest, back and hand, police said. He was taken to Stroger Hospital in serious condition. The woman later took herself to Norwegian American Hospital, where she was in good condition with a gunshot wound to the hand.
Another teen was shot minutes earlier in Lawndale on the Southwest Side. The 17-year-old boy was standing in a vacant lot in the 1200 block of South Avers when he was shot in the left leg, police said. He took himself to Mount Sinai Hospital and his condition was stabilized, but police said he was not cooperating with their investigation.
More Englewood gunfire left two men wounded just after 11 a.m. in the 300 block of West 63rd Street. A 22-year-old man was shot in the leg while firing at another person, police said. A stray bullet also grazed the head of a 52-year-old man who was driving nearby. Both were taken to Stroger Hospital, where their conditions were stabilized. Charges were pending against the younger man.
About 8:15 a.m., a West Englewood drive-by shooting left a 26-year-old man wounded in the 6000 block of South Bishop, police said. He was taken to Stroger in good condition with a knee wound.
Thursday's first shooting happened just after midnight in the Belmont Cragin neighborhood on the Northwest Side. A 15-year-old boy was standing outside with a 19-year-old woman in the 5300 block of West Belden when someone walked up and shot the boy in the back and the woman in both legs, police said. They later showed up at Community First Medical Center, where the boy was in critical condition and the woman's condition was stabilized.
On Wednesday, Chicago shootings left two people dead and 13 more wounded.
