1 Killed, 1 Injured In Motorcycle Crash On Kennedy
CHICAGO (CBS) -- One person was killed overnight in a motorcycle accident on the Kennedy Expressway.
The motorcycles were riding together on the outbound Kennedy at Canfield Avenue around 11:40 p.m. Thursday, when one of the cyclists swerved to avoid something in the road and crashed into the other, Illinois State Police said.
The cyclist who swerved – Thomas Winkelman, 43, of Harwood Heights – was dead on the scene, state police told the Sun-Times Media Wire. Winkelman was riding a Harley Davidson, the wire reported.
The other motorcyclist was riding a Honda, and was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge with serious injuries, state police told the wire. Alcohol is not believed to be involved in the crash.
The entire outbound Kennedy was closed at Harlem Avenue for hours after the crash. But CBS 2's Derrick Young reports all lanes had reopened by 5 a.m.
